Genoa – Milan

Genoa hosts Milan at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris in a match from the seventh round of the Serie A. Let’s take a look at this fixture in the city of Genova.

Both teams are having serious problems since the beginning of the season, being separated by just one point in the table. Genoa are in the relegation zone, being 18th in the standings with 5 points won. Meanwhile Milan are 16th with just one point more.

Since their win against Fiorentina, which is Genoa’s only win for the season so far, the Griffoni lost three times and won just one point. In their last game Genoa visited Lazio in the Eternal City, suffering a heavy 0-4 defeat at the Olimpico. The manager Aurelio Andreazzoli is still trying to find a solution to the problem, but so far – without much of a success. If Genoa continue to perform like this, we may see the manager eventually saying goodbye to the club.

The same could be said about Milan’s new coach Marco Giampaolo. The tactician arrived from Sampdoria in the summer, but so far his performance at the San Siro is far from satisfying. In six games played in the Serie A so far, the Rossoneri have won just two of them.

Last week Milan suffered a third consecutive loss in the Calcio. The seven time European champions hosted Fiorentina at the San Siro, but got crushed with 1-3 by the visitors. Eric Pulgar from a penalty kick, Gaetano Castrovilli and Franck Ribery scored for La Viola, while Rafael Leao scored Milan’s only goal in the game.

Against Genoa Milan will be without the Argentine centre back Mateo Musacchio, who got sent off against Fiorentina last week. This is one more problem for Giampaolo to solve in this difficult situation.

Genoa and Milan are both looking pretty bad at the moment, so it’s difficult to say which team is the favourite in this Seria A fixture. We won’t be surprised if this game ends without a winner.
