Inter – Rapid Wien

Inter welcomes Rapid Wien in a second leg from the Europa League 1/16-finals. This match is going to be played at the Stadio San Siro on Thursday night.

Inter are entering this game in a solid position. The Nerazzurri won the first leg in Wien with 1-0, thanks to a winning goal by Lautaro Martinez from a penalty kick. This gives the Italian side some serious advantage before the rematch. Of course, Rapid still have their chances to cause a surprise, but it’s going to be very difficult at the San Siro.

Let’s see how these two teams are doing in their domestic leagues.

In the Italian Serie A Inter are currently third in the standings with 46 points. Once again the Nerazzurri are fighting for a Top 4 finish and a return to the Champions League. In their last two games in the league Inter enjoyed wins, beating the teams of Parma and Sampdoria.

Inter are aiming to win their first European trophy since 2010, when they won the Champions League.

In the Austrian Bundesliga Rapid Wien are not doing very good. Right now they are 8th in the standings, being on 28 points behind the leader Red Bull Salzburg. This is surely not a position this club would like to find itself in. In 18 games in the Bundesliga played so far, Rapid have won just 5.

In their last five matches in the Bundesliga Rapid won only once – against Wacker Innsbruck. They also made one draw and suffered three losses.

In conclusion we can say that Inter are a heavy favourite to eliminated Rapid Wien, especially after winning the first game in the Austrian capital. Luciano Spalletti’s team is a little bit inconsistent this season, but the Nerazzurri are still in a much better position to progress.
