Liverpool – Sheffield United
Liverpool are turning back to the Premier League after a 1-0 win over Ajax in the Champions League during the week. The only goal at the Johan Cruijff Arena was scored in the 35th minute when Nicolas Tagliafico scored himself an own goal. For the Reds it was enough to have a winning start of the new season in Europe.
This was Liverpool’s first game since Virgil van Dijk’s horrific injury against Everton. The Dutch star is going to miss the remainder of the season with a very serious injury in the knee. Against Ajax it was Joe Gomez and Fabinho who started in defense. They did well and helped Liverpool keep a clean sheet.
Jurgen Klopp made an interesting decision against Ajax. After 60 minutes of playing he changed his entire attacking trio of Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino. They must be fresh against for the Premier League game on Saturday.
Sheffield United are not having the beginning of the 2020/21 season they hoped for. At this moment the Blades are 19th in the standings with just one point won from five matches played. This is very different from the way they performed in the previous campaign.
The Blades won their only point so far in the previous round when they hosted Fulham at the Bramall Lane. The match ended with a 1-1 draw. The Cottagers scored first, but United’s Billy Sharp equalised five minutes before the end.
That’s our preview for the Premier League clash between Liverpool and Sheffield United at the Anfield Road. The champions have some catching up to do in the league, so for them winning this one is a must.
