Serbia – Portugal

Group B of the European qualifiers is one of the most interesting at the moment. Ukraine are currentlly leading the standings, suprisingly followed by Luxembourg. Serbia are third, while the European champions Portugal are fourth. On Saturday Serbia hosts Portugal in Belgrade and this game promises to be very important for the way this group develops. Let’s take a look.

Right now Serbia are third in this group with 4 points, while Portugal have just 2 points won, but only two games played as well. If Serbia wins this game at the Rajko Mitic Stadium, they will make a big step towards qualification for the Euro 2020, while for Portugal the situation is going to become enormously difficult. So far Selecao played two games at home in Lisboa, but in both cases the European kings didn’t win against Serbia and Ukraine.

Cristiano Ronaldo is the main man in Portugal’s squad, but Selecao’s new weapon is Atletico Madrid’s Joao Felix. Despite of being just 19-years old, Felix is starting to become one of the big stars in Europe. He started the season really well for Atletico and already scored his first goal in La Liga. While trying to take care of Ronaldo, Serbia’s defense must follow Joao Felix all over the pitch as well.

But don’t think that Serbia don’t have what to offer against Portugal. Fulham’s Aleksandar Mitrovic is a player with 25 goals for the national team, while Real Madrid’s new signing Luka Jovic is also a player of huge class. Meanwhile Lazio’s Sergei Milinkovic-Savic is a true leader in midfield.

We expect a really competitive game between Serbia and Portugal at the Rajko Mitic Stadium on Saturday. Both teams have some real stars in their squads, but the stands in Belgrade are going to help the Serbians. Let’s see if Portugal can react to this pressure.
