West Ham United – Liverpool

West Ham United faces Liverpool at the London Stadium in a postponed game from the 18th round of the Premier League. Although it’s for completely different reasons, this is an important game for both teams.

Let’s start with Liverpool – the current leader in the Premier League. The Reds are enjoying a historical season so far and it’s enough to look at their stats to see why. In 23 games played so far in the league, Liverpool won 22 of them and they didn’t lose even once. If Jurgen Klopp’s team beats West Ham on Wednesday, Liverpool will be 19 points clear ahead of th second Manchester City. It seems that the title is already in the bag.

If Liverpool finish the season in such a tempo, most probably they will record the best season ever in the history of the Premier League. They are getting closer to their first title since 1990.

In the same time West Ham United need every point they can get in order to survive. Right now the Hammers are 17th in the standings with 23 points, having the same amount as the 18th Bournemouth. So far the club’s decision to sack Manuel Pellegrini and appoint David Moyes is not leading to any big changes for the club.

In their last three Premier League games – against Sheffield United, Everton and Leicester City, West Ham managed to win just one point. They need to step up their game in order to survive. David Moyes knows this and his players know it well, too.

Against Liverpool West Ham will be without the injured Lukasz Fabianski, Felipe Anderson, Ryan Fredericks and Jack Wilshere. Meanwhile Liverpool can’t use Sadio Mane, Xherdan Shaqiri and James Milner who are all sidelined.

We don’t find it very likely to see West Ham causing Liverpool their first Premier League defeat for the season. Right now the Reds look too focused on their prize and they are looking invincible.
